Glock 45 9mm Mods - Whenever the topic of 9mm carry guns comes up on the internet, it's only a matter of time before someone mentions the Glock 19. In many cases, it seems to have become the default answer—but we don't need to tell you that the G19 isn't always the "perfect" answer. Users with larger hands may find its compact frame too small for comfort, especially without undercutting the trigger guard and other frame accessories. In these cases, the 9mm Glock 45 is the smarter choice, offering more grip and a 17+1 capacity while maintaining the compact length of the G19 socket.
Like most Glock pistols, the G45 can use an almost endless supply of replacement parts, but that also presents a challenge: restraint. We've all seen the 1993 Honda Civics that look like guns, with oversized mufflers and chrome trim plastered on Pep Boys. So when we set out to modify this Glock 45, our goal was to make the end result distinctly custom, but still tasteful.

Construction began at Southwestern Precision Arms in Goodyear, Arizona. SWP machined the factory rails using the Battle X2 pattern—a prototype at the time but now standard—including front and rear scalloped areas, chamfered edges, and side pockets. Several accessory options are available; we used a direct mounted Holosun 509T slide cut (no adapter plate needed) and a window on top of the frame. This window takes us to our favorite feature, the Shoot Flat port of SWP.

A series of 10 small ports are drilled into the barrel factories, which, unlike compensators or large individual ports, allow gas to gradually escape as the ammunition travels down the barrel. The result is a surprisingly smooth and predictable kick. Coupled with the recommended 15lb recoil spring, our G45 continues to perform flawlessly with a variety of range and defensive ammunition.
Above: Due to the unique footprint of the Holosun 509T, many users mount it with an RMR adapter, but this increases the height of the opening. This is not necessary for this build as SWP milled the 509T dovetails directly into the factory sled.
Although SWP offers a repair service, we decided to send the original slides and mainly to P4 Coatings in Tucson, AZ because there was a lot of modification. P4 Coatings custom built the frame to our specifications, including a dot grip with concave sides, a dot index area above the trigger guard, and a double undercut. The P4 also has an Overwatch Precision TAC flat trigger fitted, which is polished to perfection along with the connector and safety piston. Combined with the Wolff piston and firing pin spring, this produces a crisp sub-3lb trigger pull and a short positive recoil.
With the frame and trigger work done, our Glock was ready for a new upgrade. Instead of just using the off-the-shelf paint, P4 Coatings mixed in their own KG Gunkote gray shade and added precisely masked black accents on top. Finishing touches include a set of Ameriglo GL-429 plain black iron sights from Brownells, along with low-profile Have Blue magazines and serrated aluminum slides from Overwatch Precision. The final component is the Streamlight TLR-7A, which sits flush with the muzzle for easy everyday carry. We also purchased about 17 round Magpul PMAGs from GunMag Warehouse.

In the end, we're quite happy with the understated two-tone look of this version, and even more so with its capabilities. A fine-tuned trigger makes it easier to engage targets in quick succession, while the Shoot Flat port tames recoil to the point where the game and judges (somewhat jokingly) call it cheating. There will always be people who will argue that porting is impractical for a long list of dubious reasons - a topic we plan to cover more explicitly in a future article - but so far we haven't met a single person who has tried it for its effectiveness Not impressed with this particular build. A great example, we took it to the Fieldcraft Survival mid range of pistols to break it down and ended up being the best shooter in the class. Not bad for a first cruise.
